Vanilla Plum Smoothie
I love smoothies…make it a vanilla plum smoothie and I’m in heaven! Remember that book/movie Memoirs of a Geisha? There is a scene where the lead actress is asked if she wants sweet plum or cherry ice. I just want to just through the screen and tell her to pick the plum ice! So good…
I love coming up with new and unique ways to incorporate vitamins and minerals in my daily routine. Even more importantly, I like to find ways to ensure my body will absorb those nutrients. Plums are one of those superstars due to their high vitamin C and fiber content. Research shows that ingesting these babies will help you absorb iron. They also make smoothies taste deliciously sweet without spiking blood sugar levels due to its low GI level. And what makes a better companion to plums than dates since they contain energizing B vitamins and a third of your daily iron needs with one serving. So drink up! Gulp! Gulp!
Ingredient list: dates, cashews, vanilla bean, banana, maple syrup, plums, water
I use the Omega J8006 since it can do everything from nut butters, myllk, to most juices
Put in juicer: 3 plums (I ran these through my omega juicer 3 times to get the pretty pinkish purplish color from the skins) 7 dates
1 cup pre-soaked cashews (please soak overnight–release the enzyme inhibitors!)
2 cups water
1 whole vanilla bean or some vanilla bean paste
1/2 banana
1 Tbsp maple syrup (experiment to taste)
I do not have a highspeed blender, so please let me know if you were able to try this recipe by just throwing everything in the blender. Better yet, please tell me how it goes and what adjustments you made to make it yours!
