Those closest to me know I am quite a skincare and beauty junkie. Next to using food as my primary anti-aging products, I love skincare. I’m the one that goes to Sephora just so I can get that free sample to try something new. That behavior changed a bit though when I started eating an unprocessed food diet. I started realizing all the chemicals we put into our bodies even through our skincare. I won’t say I’m completely processed-free when I’m in my beauty regimen, but my favorite products have changed quite a bit. After all, skin is our largest organ, and we should take care of it.
So when M. Steves and I got to talking about teaming up, I was super excited! I had already been using oil in my routine, but I had been looking for a rose hip oil for awhile after hearing many stories about the magical age eraser.
What you may not know about skincare oils
Something most people don’t realize is that oil is one of those few products you can use whether you have oily skin or dry skin because it balances your sebum. If you have too much oil in your skin, adding an oil to your regimen can signal your body to produce less, if you have too little, it will balance your skin out. What’s not to love about that? If you aren’t sold on an oil as your primary moisturizer, that’s okay too. Oils add “slip” to your lotions so you need less of it. Adding a couple drops of oil will help your moisturizer and foundation blend right in.
Or, if you’re like me, I actually prefer oil as my night cream. However, if your skin is really dry, you may need to help coax it into your pores. I exfoliate twice a week to remove dead skin cells and use a rose water spritzer on my face before putting on oil, emulsifying it. You can also moisten your hands before putting the oil on.
What you may want to know about my skin-type:
- My skin is very sensitive. I get red, breakout, start feeling like my skin is burning off, etc. when I have a reaction. This is fairly often when I use something new.
- Even in high school I enjoyed using products made for mature skin or acne prone because they tended to be better for sensitivity and absorption.
- My skin is dry, not oily.
Why M. Steves Ultra-Nourishing Boost made it into my skincare routine:
Though your skin needs more than one thing, if I were on a desert island, this would make a great all-in-one replacement. Just add a separate sunscreen. I use this as my eye cream, my night cream, my day cream and my “spot” cream when I have a pesky eczema dry patch. This Ultra-Nourishing Boost absorbs into my skin so easily! I wash my face before I go to bed, spritz my rose water on my face, put 1-2 pumps of the Ultra-Nourishing Boost on my face/neck/décolletage and that’s it! It’s rare that I can say I have one product that truly takes away my wrinkles, but it really does.
The first night I used it, I actually had to write to M. Steves because it burned! This is not uncommon for me when I try a new product, so I was willing to give it another go. They told me to try it alone, instead of as a supplement with my night cream. Especially while my skin was getting used to it. I did. After one night, I thought this was a pretty decent moisturizer, my skin felt hydrated, but that’s all. But then I kept using it and have been using it for about a month straight now with no variation so I could really give you an honest review. I’m 31, so even though I would say I have an exceptional diet/skincare routine, I do have slight crows feet and a wrinkle between my eyes, especially when I stick with natural skincare. Not anymore! Seriously, they’re gone. Zero eye wrinkles. Also, I wish I had taken a before picture, but I’m pretty sure one of my chicken pox scars from my childhood is starting to shrink. Considering natural products do not provide overnight miracles like chemical products, that’s pretty amazing! I’m seriously curious if it’ll be gone after another month of use. But this shouldn’t come as a surprise…
Why it works:
Mally Steves Chakola, the creator of M. Steves Skincare line, had been using her excess facial rosehip oil on a scar from a car accident, and discovered her 18-year old dark, raised scar start to shrink! She simply had to share her benefits of pure, cold-pressed Chilean Rose Hip Seed Oil (RHSO) with the world. And so the M. Steves Skincare line was born. “Rose hip oil is…frequently used to heal scarring and diminish photo-aging.” It is very high in omega 3-6-9 compared to other oils, even more than the ever-so-trendy argan oil. And of course, I LOVE that M. Steves chose to cold-press this oil. Though oils don’t tend to have a lot of “stable” anti-oxidants from the research I’ve read, if it were to ever have a chance of staying stable, it’s through minimal processing and keeping the ph level as low as possible. If you are looking for skin vitamins, this oil is a great way to go.
And right now, M. Steves is giving Foodscape readers 20% off so you can try it too!

I recently had to deal with facial eczema after trying a new cleanser . (Needless to say, I threw the cleanser away!) Then I tried numerous products to help with the eczema – expensive moisturizers to cortisone creams to shea butter. They helped a little with the redness, but the flaky, dry skin was always there. So I tried the ultra nourishing boost and within three days the eczema was gone. I love this oil! I am 59 years old and the ultra nourishing boost has become my favorite moisturizer.
