Bulu Box Review + Discount

August 28, 2015 by Foodscape

Disclaimer: I was sent a Bulu Box in exchange for a Bulu Box Review, however I will always be honest about my opinion of a product,  just like I would when talking to a friend or family member. Check out the end of this post for an awesome discount!

One of the biggest challenges with changing your diet and nutrition is your body goes through a bit of a change. You may not be used to the amount of fiber you get when you start eating more vegetables and have some gastro-intenstinal cleansing happening. Or, you might find that your sleep patterns are changing. Though I am starting to believe less and less in supplements and more and more in whole foods nutrition, I do sometimes want to find out if I like certain products without having to shell out my month’s rent to find them. Especially when you are transitioning into a different way of eating! I’ve always wished there was a way to test these products and now there is.

I love that for $10/month you can get started sampling what products work for you. Not to mention subscription dollars get converted into rewards points that you can put towards the full-size products you tried and liked.

Some fun facts about the Bulu Box:

  1. Before any boxes are delivered, they have you fill out a survey with your profile to find the best matched products for you.
  2. Every box is worth 50 points. That equals $5/box that you can put towards a full-size product on the site.
  3. Shipping is free!!
  4. Monthly plans can be canceled any time.
  5. If you sign up for a year subscription you get 1 month free!

Here’s what my Bulu Box looked like:

Bulu Box Review

I received 6 products in my BuluBox to review, but generally this box comes with 4-5 premium items. Since this is for a review, I unfortunately couldn’t choose all Vegan options. Even though it wasn’t all Vegan, I was really impressed with the variety they sent.

Since many of you readers are strict vegans, I emailed them to find out their policy on specialized diet products. This is what they said:

“While we cannot guarantee that the samples in your box will match all of the criteria in your User Profile, we can promise that we do our best to select samples that match your profile based on the products we have available to us. Your profile includes many preferences including dietary restrictions, which receive top priority in selecting samples for your box. We work with many brands each month, so your box’s contents are affected by your User Profile Survey and the provided to us each month by each brand!”

Make sure you take your time filling out there survey since it greatly influences what they send you!

This is what came in my box:

Island Boost Product Review

Island Boost: You know when you are halfway into your workout and you get a muscle cramp or completely lose energy? That’s what this shot is for. Other than the fructose (which is taking fruit sugar and separating it from the fruit and therefore not really processed free), I really liked the ingredients in this one! I didn’t even mind the fructose that much because it is a quickly absorbable energy source for your body. This may be the only time I could possibly approve of that type of ingredient since accessibility is what your body needs when you are feeling muscle fatigue and cramping. I’d say, if you are running marathons, this is a great Vegan (almost) unprocessed option. It also tastes like a grape Gusher.

Bulu Box ReviewYerba Prima Daily Fiber Formula: If you are still transitioning into eating more plants, and therefore fiber, this is a really great way to regulate your body. I really like it because it has soluble and insoluble fibers. If you are’t familiar with what that means, think of insoluble fibers as tiny brooms sweeping your intestines. Really great way to sweep out things that have fermented in your stomach over the years (ew!). Personally, I always used Psyllium Husks alone for this purpose, but this tasted waaaay better with an orange flavor and was easier to get down. Would I buy it? No, I’d prefer to add a tsp of psyllium husks to my already fibrous smoothie in the morning. However, if you don’t eat a pound of vegetables like I do, I would seriously consider if a fiber supplement is right for you so you can start training your body to eat more vegetables. Or, use this product when you are trying to do a natural cleanse.

Bulu Box ReviewBugeater Foods Jump: Calling all Vegans to avert their shuttering eyes. Did you know crickets are becoming one of the new superfoods? Neither did I. However, the more I know about nutrition, the more I understand why. When you are eating a cricket, you are eating the entire thing–no waste. That means you are getting a complete nutritional profile. From a sustainability meat-eaters perspective, America is one of the few countries that doesn’t eat insects as a staple. Bugs take up way less resources than say, a cow, in terms of water, space and food for their lives. Would you try it?

Bulu Box Review

Earth’s Care Anti-Itch Cream: You can use this product to relieve pain and itching for poison ivy, sunburn, and minor cuts & scrapes. I liked that it was pretty natural. No petroleum, fragrances or artificial coloring. It smells nice and it worked well for my spider bite. Overall, I would much prefer using this to other brands of itch cream.

Bulu Box ReviewMediterra Bars: I was mailed the Sundried Tomato and Basil Bar and it is pretty much nutritionally perfect. The worst thing I could come up with is why didn’t they use rosemary instead of rosemary extract and I like my olive oil cold-pressed and extra-virgin. It’s also very balanced with 6g fiber-6g fat-6g protein for a perfect snack. That said, I had to break this bar sample up into 2 days because I could not seem to wrap my brain around a “savory” nut bar. Day 1, I can honestly say I hated it. Sun-dried tomatoes, basils and capers do not sound good to me in a bar and it tasted really strange. Day 2, strangely, I would buy these again. Once you understand that you are not eating something sweet, and I mean telling your brain it’s not sweet, it’s really good! Not something I’d want all the time, but definitely something I would take on-the-go to be satisfied without eating junk. I’d be interested to try the other flavors.

Bulu Box ReviewMore-T Toothbrush: Yup, you got it! It’s a toothbrush shaped like a “T.” I really like it as a tongue brush and definitely think it maneuvers better for keeping my teeth clean. I would get this again! In fact, this was a shocking favorite in my box. Definitely fun to brush the top and bottom teeth without extra effort and comparable to how clean I feel after using my electric toothbrush.
